Black Belt gradings at Genshin Kai
Headquarters. On Saturday August 25th 2007 a Black Belt grading was held at the West Wilts Martial Arts Academy in Melksham. Two students were grading, Lisa Marie Reed was attempting her Black Belt and Dave (dangerous) Gillett was attempting his 1st kyu. The grading started with a cardio vascular workout and progressed through various techniques to loosen up the students joints and to warm the muscles. After an agonising 4 hours, the grading was over and the students were asked to leave the hall whilst the grading panel added up their marks and discussed their performances. Lisa was awarded her 1st Degree Black Belt and it was a unanimous decision by the three grading officials that Dave should also be promoted to 1st Degree Black Belt. Congratulations to both of you. The grading panel consisted of Grand Master Den Butler 7th Degree Black Belt, Chief Instructor Stu Pike 2nd Degree Black Belt and Rikki Gullis 1st Degree Black Belt.
Saturday 1st September was the next Black Belt Grading. Ashley Eaglestone of K1-Kickboxing, Swindon was attempting his 2nd Degree Black Belt and Gary Johnson of Genshin Kai Ipswich was attempting his 3rd Degree Black Belt. The Grading started once again with a warm up routine, each Instructor did a 30 minute warm up, then it was on to pad work, as each was already an Instructor, the grading took a different path to the previous grading. Combination techniques and agility took up a good part of the grading, and at the end, each had to complete several minutes on the bags non stop. Both Instructors were successful and passed, Ashley was awarded 2nd Degree Black Belt And Gary was awarded 3rd Degree Black Belt. The grading panel consisted of Grand Master Den Butler 7th Degree Black Belt, Chief Instructor Damien Guy 2nd Degree Black Belt and Les Davies 3rd Degree Black Belt . Les ( Tai Jutsu Kai, Bristol) originally came along to give Ashley some moral support, but because Den has an enormous amount of respect for Les, he invited him to sit on the grading panel.
